“We have everything we need to be happy but we aren’t happy. Something is missing…It is not books you need; it’s some of the things that are in books. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” (Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451)

Surprise reading- HU

Two on a bench
There was something in the air
that night.
Something odd and addictive.
A smell of frangipani stepped on
And the smell of air before rain.
The wind blowing in infinitesimal molecules
Almost afraid of making noise.
And dusk sneaking in like a thief.
The universe reduced to two
Sitting on a decrepit wooden bench
That hasn’t survived the passing of seasons.
He on one end, she on the other.
So many invisible people in between.
Distance was measured by fingertips
Closely approaching each other
And the rubbing of cells from skins
Shedded since then…
Bodies holding memories of lost limbs
And lost touches,
Repetitively aching
At days’ end.
